Self-Esteem
HAT is lack of confidence and low self esteem? Where do these
come from? How do they affect us? What can we do about the negative affects
these issues can bring on?
Confidence and self-esteem reflect the way that we look at ourselves and often have very little to do with what other people see. The truth is that even some of the most outwardly confident and highly successful people can be plagued by low self-esteem and doubt.
Much of our happiness and personal contentment will come from how we see ourselves. If we believe that we are worthless, undeserving or doomed to fail then we will go through life not trusting in any success or happiness we find. Instead we will be waiting for it to crumble away, believing that this is the inevitable outcome.
However, when we believe in ourselves, have confidence in our abilities, then we can turn any situation around. We can see each mistake as an opportunity to learn and move forward, rather than a catastrophe.
For many people who suffer from a lack of confidence or self-esteem, these beliefs are generated and re-enforced by destructive self talk (that voice inside which says over and over again that you will fail) or negative images (the pictures in your heads of everything going wrong, or other laughing at your stupidity).
