HAT IS LEARNING DISABILITY? How prevalent is it? There is no
real answer for the first question. Because of the sheer complexity of
learning disabilities no one definition can be applied and there are debates
going on as to what it ultimately is. There are many causes attributed to
learning disability. Some of the more prevalent causes will be briefly
discussed in this article. As for how prevalent this condition is, experts
estimate that between 6 and 10 percent of grade school children are afflicted
with this problem. The Foundation for Children With Learning Disabilities
estimates that 6 million adults in the United States have learning
disabilities.
Some instances are caused by physical ailments such as poor hearing, eyesight, etc and can be corrected through examination and corrective measures. In others, it has been attributed to maturational lag, that is, that some people mature at a slower rate than others. This is especially so in the case of boys maturing slower than girls. Yet other instances can occur in children who have been injured before, at, or very soon after birth. None of these instances concern those who are mentally retarded or handicapped by birth defects, etc. Those in question here have normal mental capacity. There are other things which can cause these issues
How a person has been brought up, his experiences, and what happened in the formative first five or so years in his life can have a tremendous effect on his learning experiences. Fear, self-esteem, anxiety, self-image, to name a few can have devastating effects on a person's learning ability. They can affect that person's core beliefs about himself and learning in general. Negative thinking and poor attitide towards academics can truly shut the doors to opportunity in a person's life. These can affect comprehension, memory, study skills and habits. They can become vicious cycles, hence, fear feeding poor study habits, feeding fear, etc. A whole network of adverse effects can develop, short-circuiting advancement and academic achievement.
Many of the common conditions which bring on learning disability begin as a result of learned behavior. They become habits. Bad habits can be easily broken and replaced with good ones. This can be done with hypnotherapy and EFT. Both work well in just about all factors which produce the disability. The power of suggestion on the subsconscious level can minimize and even eradicate fear, anxiety, procrastination; and memory, study, and comprehension skills. Put these in check with these alternative methods and see your procrastination go away. Watch your study skills improve. Behold as your test anxiety disappears. Give it a shot!
